U.S. Army Staff Sergeant JARED AUGUST HAGEMANN, 26

Jared took his life on June 28, 2011while stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. Jared was born November 5, 1985 in Contra Costa County, California. He graduated from Ripon High School in 2004 and enlisted in the U.S. Army as an Infantryman.

After completing Infantry One Station Unit Training, the Basic Airborne Course, and the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program, Jared was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. While serving in the 2/75th, Jared completed U.S. Army Ranger School and deployed six times to Afghanistan and Iraq. At the time of his death, Jared had orders for a seventh deployment.

In 2009, Jared was diagnosed with PTSD and his wife Ashley believes this contributed to his death. According to her, Jared was charming and outgoing, but after each deployment he would return cold, quiet, paranoid, and suffered recurring nightmares. Jared was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling, rock climbing and snowboarding.

Jared is survived by his wife Ashley, his sons Noah and Parker, his parents Steve and Janae, brother Clayton and his sister Haley.
